Hopefully quite a simple one. I have a Horizontal Stacked 100% Bar Chart. I have:
Y-axis = A drill down dimension of 2 layers
Measure = None (so just shows a count)
Group/Colour = A field called “Status”
All the data is correct. I notice that the values are sorted so they will always show up in Alphabetical order for each Status. So if I have statuses of WAITING, ON_TIME, LATE, MISSED, they will show up in order LATE>MISSED>ON_TIME>WAITING. Or opposite if I choose descending sort.
However I want to order it with my own custom sort order. Is there any way to achieve this without renaming those statuses (as they’re fine as they are). I can’t seem to find any option to sort by another field as I could have solved this with calculated field otherwise.
The field on the Y axis may be sorted using an Off-field visual which could be a calculated field where you can specify a custom order. The group-by field does not have this option.
So, you may need to rename your status. You can create a calculated field, have the text for the status the same but prefix with a number in the order you want the statuses to appear.
Thanks Giridhar. Unfortunately it’s the group-by I’d like to order! Quicksight team, can this be raised as a feature request please?
Agree the workaround is appending numbers to the start of values, but it feels quite amateur, imho we shouldn’t have to update data in a visual just to change how it is displayed.
While I am not quite sure QuickSight has High Charts now. When the standard visuals don’t work for you you may create your customized visuals using High Charts.
