I am looking to reassign a sort order to organize a field in QS so that I can create custom labeling for a phased project by name of activity. The goal is to have a custom sort order for a stacked bar chart. The field data does not include numbers and it is NOT in alphabetical order. for example if I have 5 phases but they need to show data by name; (I do NOT want to include phase number as it has no meaning because we are also working in a fast track project so phase 4 may end up happening in tandem with phase 1) I would also like to reorganize them in the future if necessary.
Phase 1
~Build Widget for top
~Build Widget for bottom
Phase 2
~QA Top Widget
~QA Bottom Widget
Phase 3
~Integrate the widgets
~Integrate to main line
Phase 4
~Build custom modules
I found this article which seems to explain a similar problem but the solution is unclear: Filtering multiple values in a field - #9 by prantika_sinha
Hi @anneshie,
I’m a little confused by the addition of the article link in how it relates to your topic. Are you trying to create a custom sort order for your visual or for a control?
Are you able to share a screenshot of your visual in discussion and point out how you envision the outcome looking so that we can further assist?
Thank you!
Yes a custom sort order for a control, thank you!
Hi @anneshie,
Thank you for clarifying! Unfortunately, creating a custom sort order (including in controls) is a current limitation within Quick Sight. Even if you add custom values to your control, they will automatically show up in alphabetical order. To create your own order, it would need some type of number system to bypass the alphabetical ordering. I know you mentioned that you do not want to add phase numbers but I believe there’s currently no work around to achieve.
I agree that custom sorting would be a great addition so I’ll go ahead and mark this as a feature request for our support team to gain visibility!
Thank you for the insights Brett!
Hi Brett- I just came across this which looks like it may be a great work around, and I wanted to share! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx0918xFxdM
