I’m trying to understand the difference between the ‘This Day’ and ‘Till Day’ options when using a relative date filter in Quick Sight.
When I set ‘Relative by’ to ‘Days’ and select ‘This Day’, I get results for the current date.
When I select ‘Till Day’, I also seem to get results for the current date.
I tried using parameters (e.g., setting the end date as ‘start of last 7 days’), but there’s still no visible difference between ‘This Day’ and ‘Till Day’ in the data returned.
Could someone explain the functional difference between ‘This Day’ and ‘Till Day’ in the context of relative date filtering? Does ‘Till Day’ include data from Day 0 up to and including today, or is it supposed to behave the same as ‘This Day’? Any clarification or examples would be appreciated.
Hello @praveen.gp Hope this message finds you well!!
The difference between ‘This Day’ and ‘Till Day’ in qs relative date filter lies in the scope of the data they include.
‘This Day’: This option filters the data to include only records from the current date (Day 0). It is strictly limited to data generated or recorded on today’s date.
‘Till Day’: This option, on the other hand, includes all data from Day 0 (the current date) and all preceding days, depending on the range you’ve set. For example, if you set the filter to ‘last 7 days’ and choose ‘Till Day’, it will include data from the past 7 days up to and including today.
If you’re seeing no visible difference between the two, it might be due to the way your dataset is structured or the specific range you’ve applied. For instance, if your dataset only contains data for the current date, both options will return the same results. However, if your dataset spans multiple days, ‘Till Day’ should include a broader range of data compared to ‘This Day’.

To clarify further, you could test with a dataset that has records spanning several days and adjust the filter range to observe the difference. Let me know if you need additional help!
Till day is not working the way you mentioned for my dashboard.
My dataset contains data from 2019 to present.
I have set the date filter default to ‘Last 45 days’.
When I select ‘Till Day’ (with ‘Relative by’ set to ‘Days’), it only returns data for today, not from the beginning of my dataset or from last 45 Days to today.
‘This Day’ also returns only today’s data.
I expected ‘Till Day’ to include all data from a starting point (e.g., Day 0 or the beginning of my dataset) up to and including today, but that’s not happening. Am I misunderstanding how ‘Till Day’ is supposed to work? Is there a specific way to configure the filter so that it includes all data up to today?
I have only issue with ‘Till day’. Other Relative date filters are working as expected.
The way lary_andr explained ‘This Day’ and ‘Till Day’ is the accurate description and how Quick Sight should be handling your data. If you are receiving different behavior, I would suggest creating a support ticket to get more direct assistance from the AWS support team.
