Hi Amazon QuickSight community,
I want to show positive values with a plus sign (e.g. +8) in a visual and color them (e.g. green), while negative values show as ‑8 in red. Ideally, I’d like to keep the field as numeric so conditional formatting and aggregation still work.
According to QuickSight documentation, we can set a custom prefix or suffix globally for a number field via Format → More formatting options → Prefix/Suffix. Setting a prefix + will prepend + to all values (positive, zero, negative).
However, there appears to be no native feature to display + only for positive values while leaving negative numbers with a minus sign automatically.
Is this limitation still current? If yes, does anyone know any workaround that preserves numeric type (not converting to string)?
Thanks a lot for your warm welcome and for taking the time to reply.
I really appreciate the suggestion with conditional formatting and icons — in fact, I’m already using the up/down arrows exactly as you described.
The thing I’m trying to achieve in addition is to show a regular plus sign before positive numeric values (while still keeping the arrows).
So ideally I’d like to keep both: the arrows from conditional formatting and a “+” in front of positive numbers in the numeric field formatting.
