Execution role dropdown is empty in the "add VPC Connection" menu

Hi there, I followed these instructions Configuring the VPC connection in the QuickSight console - Amazon QuickSight but whatever I try, the “Execution Role” dropdown doesn’t show any entry at all. Any help is hugely appreciated!

Hello @andreas,

Welcome to the QuickSight community, it is great having you here!

For the role to appear in the drop down box, it needs to have a trusted relationship with QuickSight. Can you please check that in your role this is setup as this?

Hope this helps!

Hi @andres007! Apologies for my slow response but thank you so much for the warm welcome and your answer - really appreciate it!

Now, for the question about the role setup: Unfortunately, I don’t have the required permissions to see roles, users, etc. in IAM and can only assume that the account administrator hasn’t done that yet.

But to help with that: Would you be so kind as to validate the following for me: To set up that new execution role, one needs to go to IAM and under “roles”, select “create new role” and “select trusted entity” in step 1. Which policies should then be attached to that new role in step 2? Or am I heading down the wrong path here? Thanks heaps in advance!

In trusted entities you can just use the one you can see in the screenshot on my first response. That shouls be enough for you to see the role in QuickSight.

Hope thia helps.

Okay, but how can that role be created (as it doesn’t appear in the execution drop down in Quicksight)?

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, to create an IAM role in AWS you need a user that has permission to do so, it is done in the IAM service, not inside QuickSight. Here is some documentation on how to create an IAM role.

Hope this helps!
