When I click on "Manage" IAM role for QuickSight access to AWS services, I get an error: "Something went wrong"

I need help related to my QuickSight setting.
I cannot change (“Manage”) the IAM role for QuickSight access to AWS services.

  1. In QuickSight, I choose “Managed QuickSight”.
  2. Then I choose “Security & permissions”.
  3. Under “QuickSight access to AWS services”, I see “IAM role in use” is “QuickSight-managed role (default)” and “Access granted to 2 services: Amazon S3 + Amazon Athena”.

The issue:

When I click on “Manage” (It opened the URL - https://us-east-1.quicksight.aws.amazon.com/sn/console/resources), I am getting the following error: “Something went wrong. For more information see Set IAM policy”

Important: This means that I cannot change or add any role in QuickSight !!!

I tried the following Troubleshooting:

  1. I tried it in different browsers (with Google Chrome and with Firefox ) and I got the same error. This means it is not a “browser cache issue” and not “browser-specific issue”

  2. I am using “Admin” IAM role with “AdministratorAccess” policy.

  3. QuickSight Service Role: I looked at my IAM service, but I do not see “QuickSight-managed” role (as written in QuickSight settings), But this role also does not exist in other accounts that I have, so I am not sure if it was deleted or it is not visible to me.

I can see the following roles in my IAM:
aws-quicksight-secretsmanager-role-v0
aws-quicksight-service-role-v0

  1. As I mentioned above, in QuickSight “Security & permissions” setting, I cannot add or change the role. Therefore it will not help if I will create a new IAM role (since I cannot apply it in QuickSight)

How can I fix this issue ?

Hey @Menachem_Melamed , welcome to the QuickSight community!

My guess is that you made some IAM changes manually outside of QuickSight and that created the problem.

I recommend checking out this blog:

@duncan - Thank you very much. This indeed solved the problem.
