Hello, I am trying to use a filter cross-datasets but for some reason the field mapping is not working event though the fields with same name and data type exist on both datasets. How can I make this filter work cross-datasets?
Hello @danagol
Welcome to the community! Thanks for your question!
You can achieve this by setting up a parameter to capture the account name and then using this parameter to filter data on each page.
First, create a control that allows users to select a customer from a list. This control will set the parameter value.
Next, on each page, create a filter and choose the ‘Custom filter’ option. Make sure to check ‘Use parameters’ and apply the filter to the necessary visuals. Select the parameter you created earlier to link it to the filter.
Thank you for the quick response. My issue is not filtering between pages rather filtering visuals from the different dasatsets on the same page.
More specifically, this message appears
Hi Dana @danagol,
I see from your original screen shot that QuickSight did find match on ACCOUNT_ID_SALESFORCE column between the two datasets. I assume you are expecting the datasets to be linked on #Searches per user, #Results per search and %Searches with 0 results columns as well and are wondering why they aren’t showing up as linked columns. If that is the case, try cross checking the field names and types. Check for any trailing spaces in field names as well. Exact match is needed for the field to be picked up. (You can use calculated fields to help with this match as well)
Cross dataset filtering should work even if all the fields in target dataset don’t have a match. What matters is whether the fields being used for filtering are present in target dataset and correctly picked as a match in the field mapping. So, if you created a filter on ACCOUNT_ID_SALESFORCE column, it should apply to both. But if you are configuring a filter action wherein you have configured to use both ACCOUNT_ID_SALESFORCE and another dimension, the filter action won’t be applied on the cross dataset visuals if the second dimension isn’t mapped as well.
