Filled map visual with data from the new data preparation experience?

I’m trying to create a ‘filled map’ visual using some data which I’ve created using the new data preparation experience (ie post Oct 25). I’ve created these before and I know thatin order to create the visual, I need a geospatial field.

Previously in the legacy experience, I knew how to convert a field eg country_names from text to geospatial, no problem. However I’m struggling in the new data preparation experience. In the documentation, it firstly says that there are no only four data types (which don’t include geospatial data). Indeed, trying to do this, I’ve only got those options to convert. Surely that can’t be correct, because it would mean that no new datasets can be used to created ‘filled map’ visuals?

If that were the case, then my only option to create that kind of map would be to use the ‘layer map’ visual, which requires me to upload my own geojson file. I can do that, but it’s obviously more complex, this cannot be a deliberate change that’s been made with the switch from legacy to new, surely??

Hi @agnescoa and welcome back to the Quick Community!

While the new data prep experience gives us a lot of cool features that the old data prep experience does not offer, there are still features and functionalities that sometimes falls short in the new data prep experience. From my own experience, as well as other community members have noted, the new data prep experience currently is not able to properly identify geospatial fields nor are you able to manually change the data type to a geospatial field. I am unsure if this is a bug or a feature that the Quick team is actively trying to solve.

My recommendation is to have the dataset be built in the old data prep experience as I know geospatial fields properly work there.

Hi @agnescoa,

Just checking in as some time has passed since the last update on this thread. Did the recommendation shared above help address your question?

Feel free to reach out if you need further clarification or have additional questions. If we don’t hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved.

Thank you.
