so basically i want to insert a row above row and merge some cells in the top row. . so basically i need one common heading, for example in this case ‘Prior Period’ , the second row contains prior period inc, new hire MI, New build Branch MI

If ‘Prior Period’ is a static text header then I don’t think there is a way to include that in your pivot table header.
