How can we connect an quicksight dataset to chat agent? Spaces does not allow connecting to a dataset. Basically trying to ask questions on a large dataset to fetch numbers.

The reason why I want to ask questions directly is - the dashboard do not support questions at a granular level as visuals have 500,000 records limit.

If i am not mistaken, You cannot directly connect a dataset to a chat agent through Spaces, as you’ve discovered.

Potential Solution could be to use Q Topics

Instead of connecting your chat agent to a dashboard, create a Q Topic built on top of your underlying dataset:

  1. Go to QuickSight → Topics → Create topic
  2. Select the same dataset that powers your dashboard
  3. Configure the fields and make them natural-language-friendly
  4. Add this Q topic to your chat agent’s knowledge base (or Space) instead of the dashboard

Important - Q Topics still have a row limit when returning results (around 20 rows in some cases I think).

In my QS account I see ‘Topics’ are deprecated. It say ‘can not create any new topics in this account’.

Hello Hedgd,

I am not sure why you have topic disabled. Are you an Admin of the account ? if not check with Quick Sight Admin as there might and custom permission restriction applied as shown below

In addition to @Deep’s suggestion to check the custom permissions, please also note that creating Topics is only available to Author/Admin Pro users so I also suggest verifying you have the required user type.
