How do Permissions work? Enable analyses creation but disable datasource creation

I need to make a role for a person that has access to read and write dashboards and Analyses, but cannot access anything in the Datasets or Datasources. I have tried editing permissions in IAM (this has 0 effect), editing the Role between Reader and Author (this either only shows dashboards or allows access to Datasets) and even tried custom quicksight Persmissions and added them to the user through the API.

None of these options work, and even having 3 different levels to control access permissions makes no sense to me.

I do not think this is a very complicated feature, but Quicksight seems to not want me to do this for one reason or another.

Thank you for posting.

I will like to check the settings in the order below

  1. what is the role of this user under manager user option ( Author, Reader,
    author pro, reader pro )?

  2. What can the user do at the moment and what restrictions do you want?

Once you determine the role in question 1, you can use custom permission in 2 as applicable.

The Role of the user is currently Author.

I want read and write access to Analyses, and Dashboards but no access to Datasources.

I have an admin account where I will set up the Database connections, and then I want the author role to be able to create and edit Analyses and Dashboards.
