I am creating a simple bar and line chart where i don’t see all the data label values of chart which is drawn across the Bar chart. Some low data values are hidden (highlighted) even if higher line data labels are showing. In order to see the value, i have to significantly drag the chart vertically down which is not a good visualization. Is there any fix i am missing in the formatting process.
Hello Radhakant,
Typically to fix the issue with hidden data labels in your bar and line chart, you can customize the data label settings in Amazon Quick Sight. In the Properties pane, you can enable “Show data labels” and configure their position to ensure all values are visible. Refer here
For bar charts specifically, you can adjust the position of labels to appear above bars, inside bars, at the bottom of bars, or at the top of bars depending on your vertical bar chart.
You can also customize label patterns to determine how data is labeled, such as showing all labels or labels by group/color.
If labels are overlapping, you can enable the “Allow labels to overlap” option which is useful when working with fewer data points.
For line charts, you have options to position labels above lines, left or right of points on lines, or below lines.
You can also choose specific label patterns for line charts including showing all labels, labels by group/color, line ends only, or minimum/maximum values only.
If you’re working with a combo chart that includes both bars and lines, you can selectively show labels for just the lines by unchecking the box for Bars in the Data Labels tab of the Format visual section and checking the box for Lines. reference
Remember that if you add more than one measure to an axis, the data label will only display the formatting for the first measure.
Hope this gives some insight.
Cheers,
Deep
I am using only line chart data label , there is no overlapping and i selected the data label to show above the line
Hi @radhkan,
From experience, I believe you’re encountering fairly normal behavior as there are a number of visual options within Quick Sight that limit the data labels based on the overall size of the visual. As you mentioned, to get them to populate, you had to stretch the dimensions of the visual. To my knowledge, there’s no great work around to edit the labeling and adjust if the visual size is smaller.
