I am looking into embedding a custom chat agent via the GenerateEmbedUrlForRegisteredUser-Command. I am already using DashboardEmbedding in my Application and my users are provisioned with “Reader”-Roles.
When I try to embed the Chat Agent for a “Reader” I get a “connection refused” screen from Quicksight in the embedded frame. When I do the same for a “Reader Pro” User, the embedding works. Are Chat Agents only available from “Reader Pro” Roles upwards?
Looking into the “Quick” Pricing I see free tiers, etc. - how does this relate to Quicksight Pricing?
Is there some kind of overview out there of how Quicksight Roles relate to Quick Roles and vice versa regarding pricing and available features?
As fas asI know, Chat Agent Embedding Requires Reader Pro (or Higher). Embedding a Chat Agent via GenerateEmbedUrlForRegisteredUser requires at minimum a Reader Pro role. The standard “Reader” role ($3/month) does not have access to generative AI capabilities including Chat Agents, Spaces, Flows, or Research. This is why you’re seeing the “connection refused” screen for Reader users.
Specifically, the generative BI capabilities (including embedded chat agents, executive summaries, data stories, and Q&A) are only available to Author Pro and Reader Pro roles in embedded experiences.
NOTE: Author/Admin Pro user would be needed to create the Chat Agent in the first place.

Key Points for Your Embedding Use Case
To embed Chat Agents, your users must be provisioned as Reader Pro ($20/month) at minimum.
The $250/month dedicated infrastructure fee applies per account when you have Pro users or Q&A capabilities enabled.
The “Free tier” you see on the Quick Suite pricing page refers to the Amazon Quick Free plan (for non-AWS-account users using email/social login) — this is separate from the QuickSight embedded analytics pricing and not applicable to your embedded use case.
Standard Reader ($3/month) remains limited to QuickSight BI-only capabilities (dashboards, reports) and does not include any new Quick Suite AI features.
