I’ve been using the new AI assistant chat bot for a few days and I was appreciating the results it was giving me. However recently the chatbot has been unable to access certain dashboards that I use most. I have manually tired adding the dashboard as context, creating a new chatbot with specific dashboards as data sources and still I get no results. It is as if those dashboards do not exist in the chatbot’s POV.
Could I get some additional information from you regarding the chatbot not being able to access certain dashboards. You mention “certain dashboards”, does this imply that you have been successful with some dashboards, just not all of them.
Are you able to assign the dashboard to a chat? But in doing so, no relevant information is returned from it, while in the chat session.
Yes @dgirling that’s correct. The chat assistant seems to be able to access some dashboards (even without direct prompt). However, for other dashboards (that I have access to) even when I explicitly add a dashboard to the chat, it is as if the chat assistant still does not know it exists.
Have you considered creating a topic around the underlying datasets used in a dashboard, that is if one has not already been created. Topics are collections of data that enable natural language Q&A functionality for users. The topic can then be associated with the chat agent and should provide a much richer converse.
You may want to double-check the access configuration for the AI Assistant since it doesn’t automatically inherit permissions from the user. Make sure the role assigned to the assistant has access to both the dashboard and the datasets behind it.
A couple of things to verify:
The user/role must have Viewer or Author access to the dashboard itself.
The underlying datasets need to be shared with the same user/role — not just the dashboard.
If Row Level Security is enabled, ensure the assistant isn’t being restricted by the RLS rules.
If you are using embedded dashboards, confirm that the identity passed during the embed session matches the one that has permissions inside QuickSight.
Once permissions line up at both the dashboard and dataset level, the AI Assistant should be able to load and interact with the content normally.
Let us know if adjusting those permissions resolves it!
Following up here as it’s been awhile since last communication took place on this thread; Are you still encountering the same issues with your chat agent? If you’re adding directly to the agent and it’s still not responding, I would suggest creating a support ticket to report as this seems like a bug.
If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.
