Pricing for full refreshes scheduled of spice dataset

Hi,

I have a question regarding daily scheduled full refreshes for datasets stored in SPICE. Specifically:

  1. Is there an additional cost for scheduling full refreshes of SPICE datasets?
  2. If not, are the costs limited to SPICE storage usage and potential data source query charges?
  3. Does the frequency of refreshes impact the overall cost in any way?

I want to ensure I understand any pricing implications tied to scheduling these full refreshes.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Dafini

In Short:

  1. No additional QuickSight fee for scheduling full SPICE refreshes.
  2. Yes, your costs are primarily (a) SPICE storage at $0.38/GB-month and (b) data source query charges (e.g., $5/TB for Athena, S3 GET request fees, Redshift RPUs, etc.).
  3. Frequency of refreshes does not directly increase QuickSight costs, but more frequent queries to your data source can drive up external query fees.

Examples

  1. Amazon Athena
  • Refresh scanning 100 GB: 0.1 TB × $5/TB = $0.50 per refresh.
  1. Amazon S3
  • 1,000,000 GET requests: 1,000,000 / 1,000 × $0.0004 = $0.40.
  1. Amazon Redshift Serverless
  • 16 RPUs for 15 minutes at $0.36/RPU-hour: (16 × 0.25) × $0.36 = $1.44 per ingestion.
