Quicksight alert question

How can I create an alert just based on a metric? Whenever I create one it seems to add all of the attributes that are on the same line as that metric. I want to be able to check say a certain value of a metric on any of the data in the dashboard and not just the ones that have certain attributes associated with it. Here is an screenshot of one with company data left out.

In this one for instance I want to see any net value that is 80 for instance. What it does under that is pull in Item Name and Issue Number. I don’t want my net value of 80 based on those two things also. I just want to be able to do this on any net value of 80 and not be dependent on Item Name or Issue Number.

Hi @pbishop,

The visual type being utilized will limit the way you can set an alert, for instance when setting one on a pivot table, you need to select the exact cell meaning it will add the field variables that match that cell.
One way you could try to work around this would be to utilize a KPI visual. Let’s say you wanted to be alerted if a value within a field exceeds a certain amount. You can add that field to your KPI and set to ‘Max’. Then set an alert on that visual.

Let me know if that could work for your case or if you have any additional questions.

This is a pivot table in the one example that someone has given me. There is no way just using a pivot table to show any net value that is 80 dollars?

Hi @pbishop,

Not through the pivot table itself; Quick Sight only allows you to select a specific cell within a pivot table to set an alert on.

So we’d need to add a feature request if we’d want to be able to do this in a pivot table alone?

Hi @pbishop,
Yes, I can mark this as a feature request for the support team to consider the addition of more alert options.
As mentioned above, you can build a KPI visual that monitors the net value overall and setup an alert on that visual. You can hide then hide the KPI visual on your dashboard so that there’s no visual change, it’ll be like your table is creating the alert itself.

That would be awesome. How do I follow up on the status of a feature request? Is it better if request one myself through support?

Hi @pbishop, you can create a customer support ticket to see if they can assist with something particular on your account.

In regards to their feature releases, Amazon does not release a roadmap or timeline on their upcoming features but you can keep an eye out on the ‘What’s New’ page of the community.
