Hi Team,
I’ve had several requests from end users across different Business Units regarding the file naming convention used when exporting data from visuals (CSV/Excel). Currently, Quick Sight auto-generates file names in the format:
-
Count_of_Records_by__1755596878299.csv -
Sum_of_Cost_and_Sum_1755587299789.csv
I understand that the default is VisualTile name (first 20 characters) + epoch timestamp. However, this format is not user-friendly for non-technical business users who regularly export and analyze data. Many have expressed difficulty identifying the right files after download.
Also, the first 20 character s of visual Title sometimes doesn’t make sense, users sometimes need a custom name, based on the dynamic filters we applied in the dashboards.
Please allow end users the option to “Save As” when exporting data from visuals, so they can name the file appropriately before download. This would make exported files much easier to manage and reduce post-download confusion.
Value:
-
Improves usability for non-technical users.
-
Saves time for analysts working with multiple exports.
-
Aligns with standard “Save As” experience in other BI/reporting tools like Tableau which is also used by some of our BU’s.
