QuickSight filter control switches from dropdown to search when distinct values increase

In Amazon Quick, filter controls automatically switch from Dropdown to Search when the underlying field exceeds ~1,000 distinct values. This behavior is enforced and cannot currently be configured or overridden.
This has become a frequent and high-priority request from business users, especially for:

  • Dashboards where users prefer visual selection over typing

  • Scenarios with known, business-friendly value lists

  • Tableau / Power BI migrations, where this behavior is configurable

    Please consider this as a priority feature request, as it would significantly improve dashboard usability, UX consistency, and user adoption.

Thank you for your post and bringing this to attention. Like you mentioned, once the value count exceeds 1,000, controls automatically default to search bars, and the only option to work around it would be using relevant values (although not applicable in many scenarios).
I agree this would be a nice feature to be added so I’ll tag this as a feature request to promote visibility to the support team.
