We have several Shared Folders for each of our different clients within our QS environment. We also have a “exec team” user group with viewer access that is comprised of mainly c-suite users with individual reader access.
I thought they were able to click the Shared Folder link within the UI and see the different folders and only access the dashboards within each folder but now they get an error message that states they must be author or admin roles to access the shared folders.
In the documentation, it states " * Users that are viewers on a folder and have the Author or Admin role in Quick Sight can view all asset types that are in the folder. Users that are viewers on a folder and have the Reader role in Quick Sight can only see dashboards and stories that are in the folder."
So why wouldn’t they be able to see the folder structure while only accessing/seeing the dashboards in each folder? This helped organize the various dashboards for ease of use.
Hi Clay @clay.cooper ,
Your understanding is correct.
Readers are able to see the folders that are shared with them, along with the parent folder(s) so that they can get to the specific shared folders. Within the shared folders, they are able to see dashboards, if any are present therein.
The same is true regardless of whether the folder is shared directly with the reader or via a group. I did a quick check at my end now (in us-east-1) and this is working as expected.
If you are still having trouble with folder visibility for your readers, I would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case. If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf. Hope this helps!
