Sorting a table visual

I’m having trouble sorting a table visual. For some reason, I can’t seem to sort a table by a column that’s not the last dimension field. If I have only dimensions and no values, and I want to sort by the 2nd column, I keep getting a vague error message: `We can’t parse this SQL syntax. If you are using custom SQL, verify the syntax and try again. Otherwise, contact support`

It’s super frustrating because I can’t even add another field for the sort or sort one field by ascending or descending. I can only get the table to sort if I move the field to the very end.

Hi @maat

There is something else going on here, as the error is related to the database query. Can you share additional details about the fields in the visual (if they are coming from the data source or calculated field etc). That may answer the question.

Giri

All the fields are coming straight from the data source. The new field I had to add as a workaround to enable the sorting is a obviously a calculated field.

Here’s the error message I’m getting:

Hi @maat

Have you tried using the sort by multiple fields from the context menu? which is available against each field. You should be able to sort by any field you want. I did a small test and it seems to work fine.

Hi @maat,

Just checking back in since we haven’t heard from you in a bit. I wanted to see if the guidance shared earlier helped resolve your question, or if you found a solution in the meantime.

If you still have any additional questions related to your initial post, feel free to share them. Otherwise, any update you’re able to provide within the next 3 business days would be helpful for the community.

Thank you
