I try to sort by ascending/descending in my pivot table but nothing changes. Can anyone help troubleshoot this?
Hi @paj324,
Have you checked to make sure you are sorting by the correct field in your visual? When you expand the sorting option, normally it will give you more than one field option to sort by depending on what else is being used in your visual.
If you are sorting by the correct field already, could you please include a screenshot of how the visual looks when sorting by both ascending and descending so that we can see what else may be causing this to occur.
When I try to sort by ascending or descending in my columns this shows up but it never works.
this is what I see when I click on the first column but this way of sorting is confusing for clients.
Hi @paj324,
I just tested this out on a pivot table and it seems to be working fine for me:
Please keep in mind that when you sort, it’s sorting the individual values in the lowest row field, not the sub-sections. So when you expand your sections, they should be sorted in the correct order.
If this is what’s not working for you, could you please send an expanded screenshot that shows the numbers and how you have your rows setup.
Thank you
Are you referring to
This is a sub underneath the larger row. I sorted by descending and it still does not work. I don’t know how to trouble shoot.
Hi @paj324,
There are a number of areas that need/can be checked for sorting and may be affecting this from filtering correctly although that is hard to see with small zoomed in screenshots of your columns. Are you able to create a copy of your analysis and share in the Arena view?
Additionally, another work around you could test out..create a calculated field that ranks your commission based off the aggregation levels being used in your pivot table. You can use the rank or denseRank function.
Then, setup your visual to be sorted by an off-visual field and use the newly created rank field to sort.
Hi @paj324,
It’s been awhile since we last heard from you, did you have any additional questions or were you able to find a work around for your case?
If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.
Thank you!
