I’m having exactly the same issue as mentioned below:
I have no parameters in my dataset and the SQL runs fine in Athena, yet SPICE refresh is failing?!
I’m using a custom SQL with an XLSX joined on.
My SQL is a couple years legacy data normalised and joined onto one another. Notably I’m using SPICE but the underlying data is not changing as it’s legacy data.
Please help!
Update: The dataset refresh is only failing once I use the dataset to replace another dataset in an analysis

Two questions: 1) If you remove the join, does the custom SQL dataset work and 2) Is the dataset that you are replacing have any analysis parameters or dataset parameters associated with it?

Hi Duncan - no parameters in the QuickSight or SQL…
We did find a solution though. For some reason changing the datasource to a new Athena datasource fixed the problem
