String list to String

Hi, I have a multi-select filter with text values from a data source, and I would like to retrieve the list of selected values into a parameter (in any format, it can be comma-separated). The list can even be limited to the first N values, but it must be returned as a String. Is this feasible?

Hi @MarcinBush and welcome to the QuickSight community!
Do you mean that you’d like to create a parameter for one of your field’s? You can set up a multi-select parameter that will have all values listed and use that to filter your visual.

Could you explain a bit further in depth of what you’re looking to achieve overall; if you can include a screenshot of what you currently have and how you’d like to alter it for your finished product that would be great in helping me further understand how to better assist.

Thank you!

Hi @Brett,
Let’s assume I have a Market Segment Name filter of type multiselect, as shown in the image (with around 20 available values).

I want to retrieve and display the selected in a filter values in a Text or Insight widget as a list—for example:
“Statistics for Market EU, Market US, …”, something like this:

Ideally, the values should be limited to a single line, separated by commas, and ending with "..." if the list is too long - but this is just an additional requirement.

For now I can get only first selected value from a filter and display as “Statistics for Market EU”

Hi @MarcinBush,
After looking in to this further and trying to test out, unfortunately I do not believe this is currently achievable in QuickSight with a multiselect parameter as I’m having issues drawing all of the selected options.
I agree that this would be a nice feature to implement in a text box option as well so I’ll mark this as a feature request to promote visibility to the support team.

Hi @MarcinBush,
While I’ve marked this as a feature request, I wanted to follow up and see if you had any additional questions prior to me closing out.

If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close this topic.

Thank you!

Hi @MarcinBush,
