Unable to add a dataset to an existing join

In AWS Quick Sight, I am unable to add a new dataset to an existing join. The dataset creation itself works, but when trying to include it in a join, the option to add a dataset is either disabled or results in an error. The IAM role and Quick Sight permissions appear to be correctly configured. What could be the possible reasons for this issue, and how can I resolve it?

Hello @hikaruakashi,

Welcome to the Quick Sight Community, it is great having you here!

Can you give us more information on what type of data soruces are you trying to join?

You can find more information on the specifics of joins in quicksight here.

Hope this helps!

Hello @andres007

Thank you for your response and for providing the helpful documentation!

The data source I am trying to join is an existing dataset that has already been created in Quick Sight.

However, this issue only occurs in the production (PRD) environment. When I perform the same operation under identical conditions in the staging (STG) environment, the join works without any problems.

I have verified the following:

  • The user accessing Quick Sight has Author permissions.
  • The custom permissions are exactly the same between PRD and STG.
  • The IAM role used is completely identical in both environments.

Despite thorough investigation, I have not been able to resolve this issue.
Would you happen to know of any potential differences or overlooked factors that could be causing this issue?

I appreciate any insights you can provide!

Hello,

I cannot think of a reason why the exact same assets with the same permissions will get you different results just becuase of a change on environments.

I would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case. If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf.

Hope this helps!

Hello @andres007

I checked again today, and it seems that the issue has been resolved.
We did not make any changes or take any specific actions on our side, so at this point, we are still unsure what caused the issue or how it was resolved.

Do you happen to know if there were any recent releases or backend updates on the Quick Sight side that might have addressed this?

Thank you again for your support!

Best regards,
