Unable to edit the dashboard

My team used to own a QuickSight dashboard; however, the people who were admins of this dashboard are no longer at Amazon. How can I grant access to update the information?

Hello @kslennon

Welcome to Quick Community and thank you for posting your question.

You can add users as a Co-Owner to the dashboard if you are the “Admin” of Quicksight

Steps for the Admin to Transfer Ownership

Your QuickSight administrator should:

  1. Navigate to the QuickSight Management Console

  2. Go to “Manage QuickSight” > “Manage Assets”

  3. Find the relevant dashboard that was owned by the departed team members

  4. Share the dashboard with you as an “Owner”

This will give you full ownership permissions, allowing you to:

  • Edit the dashboard

  • Modify underlying datasets

  • Share with other team members

  • Make structural changes

Alternative: User Account Cleanup Process

If the departed employees’ user accounts are still active, your admin can delete those user accounts. During the deletion process, QuickSight will provide an option to transfer all assets owned by that user to another existing user account.

Important Notes

  • Co-owners have the same permissions as the original creator , so being granted owner access will give you full control

  • Only QuickSight admins can perform ownership transfers - regular users cannot do this themselves

  • The dashboard and its data will remain accessible to users who already had permissions
