Hi Team,
I am working on building stack bar chart, I have copied the same bar chart with different date range filter - 6 weeks and 6 months. Both the bar chart have different color for same category, this is caused because 6 months chart have more categories.
Is there a way to have standardize color across bar chart? No matter the number of categories. It is not possible for me to manually update the coloring.
Hi @duncan,
My dashboard view changes all categories based on the parameter value. There are ~10 parameter values and each parameter value is associated to ~10 categories. So, if I need to manually update the dashboard it would required me to updated 100 color manually.
Also, if in future I want to expand my dashboard to have more parameter value, it would be a nightmare to again set-up old 100 categories + New X categories.
Based on the Quicksight documentation on themes it sounds like that amount of categories that need their own specific color isn’t possible using the default themes.
At that level of categories, I would recommend creating a custom theme, going to the data section of the them builder and under data colors adding as many custom colors as you have categories.
It might also be helpful for you to share a screenshot of the charts that you are working on to understand the scale/layout of the charts you are working on.
HI @duncan,
I don’t think the creating a theme would be helpful.
I have 2 identical graph filter on different time ranges, first one on 6 weeks, another one on 6 months. If I using the 6 weeks graphs there are only 3 available categories (A, B, D), while if I am using 6 months graph there are 4 categories (A, B, C, D) due to longer date range. In this kind of scenario the color scheme is messing up.
Is there a way that QS using same colors across graph?
Sorry, I won’t be able to share screenshots at is it organization’s private data.
Hi, I am marking Duncans response as a solution as QuickSight as just released functionality to set field level coloring that is consistent across the visuals. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
Hi @karanchhabra99 It sounds like you’re saying that you don’t want to have to manually create a value-to-color mapping. Field-level coloring is still manual. I think what you’re after is something that Quicksight unfortunately does not support today, which is a value color match between visuals, regardless of what the color is. You don’t care that value A is always orange, for example; you just want value A to be the same across visuals, whatever color it is. I can certainly log this as a feature request and help involve the right product owner.
