Dynamic Parameter Not Working

Hello,

I am working on a dashboard and have implemented a dynamic parameter. This dynamic parameter called email is mapped to a email_address column. This dataset is essentially an SQL query within Athena that selects certain columns (email_address included).

We have tested whether this parameter is updating properly by printing it within a textbox. Instead of returning the email address (which exists within the dataset) it returns ‘All’ which causes the incorrect email to be used within the query.

We’re unsure of this error because the user’s email address exists within our dataset but for some reason our analysis is not recognizing it. It seems to work when we set the static default value to there user but does not work when they actually open it up.

Any thoughts?

Hi @mitoo,

Did you follow the steps outlined in the following documentation:

Additionally, so in your case, when a user logs in, you want to limit the data they’re able to view or just define how a specific control defaults? If you’re looking to limit the viewable data based on the user, RLS may be a better option for that scenario.

I want a default parameter to dynamically update to one’s user. For example, my main dataset for the report joins with a conflict of interest table. This dataset queries data where the user has NO conflict of interest. The dynamic parameter would query the dataset and filter out any conflict of interest by dynamically being set. RLS seems to have specific column requirements where my username must be ‘UserName’. I also hope to use this conflict of interest table where I can join it to other tables to determine what data user should see for different reports.

Hi @mitoo,

Hope this message finds you well! Just wanted to check in as this thread has not received a response in a while. Were you able to find a workaround for what you are trying to achieve or are you still facing persistent issues? If we do not hear back in the next 3 business days, I’ll close out of this topic.

Thanks!
