Error: Pivot Table not rendering with Direct Query

dataset is custom query/direct query (redshift):

We have a dynamic filter for the pivot table where they can select a field from a drop-down list (single select). All record types render the pivot table, EXCEPT for an option that just brings back ‘Totals Only’. We get an error on the visual when that option is selected.

Changing the dataset from direct query to SPICE resolves this issue. Can you help us understand why we can’t get the visuals to render when we are connected via direct query?

I would like to add that we are using the same calculation for another dashboard and we are not receiving this error. The query works in redshift, and when any other option is selected, the pivot table renders results. When we switch from SPICE to Direct Query, the error goes away.

This is the error we are receiving:

Hi
Please note that if the failure was generated while working on an analysis, remember that the Amazon Quick Sight timeout for generating any visual is two minutes . So simply your query it will work.

We are seeing this error immediately; we aren’t seeing this with all dashboards created with the same calculated field either

Hi

If the visual is timing out immediately, I would recommend logging a support ticket.

Here are the steps for opening a support ticket - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support . If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf

@krushmere ,

Before logging a support ticket .
1/ Can you create a new pivot table , add the required fields and test if it works ?
2/ If step1 still fails, provide a few more details as to what total only means ? Dimension value ? How does the data look like
3/ Looking at the screenshot , it could be the query failed to run which was sent to Redshift. Can you check what happens in Redshift ? Check what is the SQL sent and if it executed successfully ?

Kind regards,
Koushik
