Filled map for Japan regions

I’ve been (partially) able to visualize Japanese prefectures on a filled map (link). Now trying to visualize Japanese regions.

The regions name are in the following format:

region_en region_jp
Tokai 都会
Shikoku 四国
Tohoku 都北
Tohoku 都北
Kansai 関西
Kansai 関西
Chugoku 中国
Shikoku 四国
Kyushu 九州
Hokkaido 北海道
Kyushu 九州
Hokkaido 北海道
Kyushu 九州
Tokai 都会
Tohoku 都北
Tohoku 都北
Chugoku 中国
Tohoku 都北
Tohoku 都北

I already tried adding to a hierarchy but the regions are not visualized correctly.
Here is an example of using “region_en”

Only Tokyo is visualized.

How can I visualize Japanese regions on a filled map?
Thank you

Hello @Ales, so it really depends on the country that you are trying to display in regards to how well the hierarchies are managed on the mapping visuals. If adding the hierarchies is not allowing you to properly display the regions in Japan, than I think this visual is likely limited for regions in that country. Would you be able to utilize a more localized geospatial field like city, county, postal code instead of region to display what you are wanting? That might lead to a better result visualy.

I can also tag this as a feature request for our support team since the functionality currently doesn’t exist. Let me know if this helps!

Hello @DylanM ,
Thank you for your support. I think Japanese geo related data probably need some updates on Quicksight. (also see the last post at this link where “Hokkaido” is not mapped correctly at prefecture level.)

I can utilize other geospatial fields but wanted to use regions for a specific task.

Thank you

Hello @Ales, it definitely seems like there are some bugs related to the geospatial mapping for Japan. I’ll keep this post tagged as a feature request but I would also recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details to help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case.

Hopefully they can give you some further guidance! I will archive this topic for our support team. Thank you for your feedback.
