Filter - Applies To

I have these notes at the bottom of my dashboards that also have a Last Refreshed Time which is a column from the dataset.

I typically add this at the very end of the processing of building the sheet. What I have found is that all the filters that I have for the visuals on the sheet are applied to this Insight visual when it is created. I have to manually change the Filter to change the Applies to “Some Visuals” and select all visualizations except this one.

What would be preferred is if I could say a specific filter does not apply to this visual and not the other way around.

Anyone has a different approach to this?

Hello @Giridhar.Prabhu !

If I understand correctly you want to make sure that your filters are applying only to target visuals and not all visuals on the sheet?

When you created the filters, did you apply a parameter or did you create the insight narrative based off of another visual?

When you add a parameter to a filter control, you get a prompt asking “Do you want the Parameter to filter all the visuals across sheets from dataset(s)?”. If you select yes to that prompt the filter will be applied to all visuals that are on the dataset.

Hi @duncan,

You are right, I applied a parameter to the filter and did a Yes to the “Do you want the parameter to filter all the visuals across sheets from dataset(s)?”. While this is what I want for all visuals in the sheet, the insight visual is an exception since it is being used just to show the Last Refresh Time and some notes.

What I find doing myself is to edit each filter to “Some Visuals” and individually checking each visual except the Insight visual. Isn’t it a better option if we had a way to say that a particular filter does not apply to this visual?

Giri

Hello @Giridhar.Prabhu !

Unfortunately, if you choose “Yes” on that filter scope it will automatically filter all visuals of that dataset. I can mark this as a feature request for the QuickSight team!
