Flexible metric comparison

I have a list of metrics, that i would like to be able to compare to previous periods in a flexible manner. As far as i am concerned the trend group field is static so that it will only compare to the period you have preselected and is not changable in the dashboard.
I would like to be able to create a flexible options, so that when i show the metric for say this month, it will compare it to the previous one. Similarly if the last 90 days is selected it will compare the metric to the previous 90 days.

Has anyone had some luck building something like that or know that it is possible?

It also points to the Demo Central link: https://democentral.learnquicksight.online/#Dashboard-TipsAndTricks-Calculation-Year-over-Year-KPI. If you open the analysis (edit icon in the left menu navigation) in the demo central, you can refer to the calculated fields (Prior Period, Selected Period) and how they are used with the Parameters.
