GetDashboard Event and Reader Session

Hello!

There is an event in CloudTrail that is named GetDashboard. Does this event appear only when you open a dashboard or it also appears when you refresh the web page with the dashboard?

Just to give an example, there is a user who performed GetDashboard - one at 10:03, another at 11:49. But if we look at the CUR to get the reader sessions, we can see that the same user was interacting with a dashboard also after 12 (last column is the number of reader sessions). For the reader sessions we have this “A Reader session starts with user-initiated action (for example, login, dashboard load, page refresh, drill-down, or filtering) and runs for the next 30 minutes. Keeping QuickSight open in a background browser window or tab does not result in active sessions until the Reader initiates action on the page”.

Hi @ksenstad,
The ‘GetDashboard’ event will trigger either when loaded initially or when refreshing the web page.
When you refresh your web page, QuickSight is fetching data (and updates), therefore triggering the event as well.

Let us know if you have any additional questions!

Hi @Brett ,

Got it, thanks! Just one small clarification question - if the dashboard was opened initially (that triggered first GetDashboard event) and then it was just opened in the background for a while, when e.g. reader user returns back to work with it without reloading the page, no
GetDashboard event is sent, however new Reader Session started, correct?

Hi @ksenstad,
From my understanding, yes that is correct.
