I can not find my agent’s chat history and artefacts
I desperately do not want to re create. can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong ?

Currently the chat agent history is still somewhat limited for the new chat agents. You can bring up the chat history for the last 30 days.
You can access the history that is available by clicking on the ‘conversation history’ button in the top right of your chat agent:

Hi - i also cannot see my chat history (I do not have the clock icon, only the option to ‘create a new chat agent’ which is not what I want to do). Is there a way to see a previous chat (created earlier today)?
