How to change the timezone for Date Picker Control in Quicksight dashboard?

Has anyone found a way to change the timezone for relative dates in the Date Picker control or date filters in Quicksight?

I have a dashboard which contains data that updates once a day overnight (in PST), so the dataset is only up to date up until yesterday’s date relative to PST time. (i.e. on Nov 16th my dataset is up to date for Nov 15th).
In my dashboard, I have selected a Date Picker Control and chose the default date to be Yesterday. However I’ve noticed that the controls in Quicksight go by UTC time. After 4pm PST it is 12am UTC so the default control starts showing Todays’ date by default instead of Yesterday. This is obviously a problem because my dataset has not been updated for Today’s date yet.

The only solution I have found on other forum posts is to offset my own dataset to UTC time and edit the date time values in the Quicksight settings. However, this does not work in my case because I do not have a date time field for my dataset, I only have Date. So I cannot offset the timezone.

I need to be able to adjust the timezone when selecting relative dates in the Quicksight control. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hi @jovanaV,

Are you using the new “Convert time zone” feature?

Hi David. I have tried this, but it only works if all the underlying date fields are in UTC. I don’t have a datetime field in my dataset at all, I only have Date so I can’t convert my date fields to UTC. And when I try to choose PST here all my visuals break and show errors because I think it’s trying to offset a timezone in my dataset which can’t be done. When I try this all my visuals show this error:

I need to find a way to get the Quicksight to use PST for relative dates in the control, without trying to change anything in my dataset

Hi @jovanaV -

You should be able to use the Custom Time Zone feature for both Date and Timestamp columns, as long as they are UTC. However, converting time zone will change the day boundary for negative UTC offsets.

I’ve reproduced your issue, can you confirm you are using relative date filters with parameters for both the range amount and the relative date?

Hello @jovanaV !

Were you able to solve this problem or follow up with @robdhondt about their comment above?

It has been some time since we have heard from you but would still like to help you find a solution.
