How to customize when chart returns "No data"

I would like to ask for support to customize a table that, with some filters, returns “No data”.

This really makes sense in my case, because this table is only supposed to show rows with statuses such as Critical or Monitor, but when these statuses do not exist, add the table.

How can I customize to show either a message that there is nothing or at least show the header without lines?

Hi @MabeFogolin and welcome to the QuickSight community!
So are you asking how it’s possible to display a custom message instead of the visual showing as ‘No Data’?
Or are you looking to have the visual show ‘No Data’ if there are no values with a status of ‘Critical’ or ‘Monitor’?

If it’s the first option, unfortunately there’s no feature that allows you to provide a custom message instead of ‘No Data’.

If it’s the second option, I would suggest setting up a filter on your visual that would only return values that have a status of ‘critical’ or ‘monitor’. That way, if no results have that status, your visual will return the ‘No Data’ sign.

Hey Brett,

I have the same question and the default quicksight ‘No Data’ message is not nice on the dashboards when lets say the data for a specific exhibit is not available or does not exist.

On the second option lets say if I had a dashboard with 4 filters and 4 exhibits, will you be able to explain a bit more how you are suggesting we achieve it?

Hi @ramravin,
The second option I brought up to clarify what the original post was eluding to was to get ‘No Data’ to show up, which you mentioned you do not want.
The only way to get away from having ‘No Data’ show is to set up a rule on your visual that hides it based on what parameter value would return ‘No Data’ on your visual.

I’ve setup a very basic example in Arena view:
How to customize when chart returns

For this example, I have a visual that is filtered by the Region parameter control. I set the parameter to default to ‘None’ so that there was an extra value to set my rule against. As No Data will be returned if ‘None’ is selected, I set a rule to hide the visual if ‘None’ is selected in the parameter.

Hi @MabeFogolin,
