Q: Can I create a template and apply it for multiple paginated reports using different data sources and parameters?
A: Okay perfect yep so a couple of ways of doing that, you know, we don’t have a magic button currently within quicksight to help you do that, but what you can do is that you can actually create a patented report which you can call it as a template that has your headers and the theme set with it. So you can define and then use that with an API that we have. So we actually have an API called describe dashboard. You can use that, get your JSON from the template and then apply it programmatically to all the reports, right? So you’ll have to basically use a combination of a template that you create within quicksight, and then use that to basically call the apis to insert those headers and footers and the theme to all your other reports, binary reports too. So you have to use a combination of report and apis to do that.
Q: will we be able to create a separate report created based off of each section value ?
A: If you’re looking at doing it out of the box like how we have snapshots generated for each PDF report, the snapshots remain the same. So you have a section defined and you have defined a page rate for that session. The report output that the snapshot will store only a single snapshot. So if you print that report, you will see that the those get printed on different pages, right? But if you have a requirement to basically store that as separate reports by itself, like each section is outputted as a separate report, you will have to use a combination of the snapshot Api’s that I showed in the blog, right? So use that basically the section value or the section combination should be mapped with the parameters. You create parameters and map that to the 2nd values and then call that apis to basically generate that as single reports and then you can store it wherever you want.
Also, if you have RLS enabled, if you have RLS combinations match your section combinations. And then you generate those reports and email those reports out. That will basically generate different snapshots or different sections are separate report itself because the RLS is mapped to your sections. So different ways of basically working through it depending on your use case. Okay, so that’s the 1st case.
2nd is, the accelerated program, so we do have certain partners who have built certain tools to convert legacy, but I think if you have what we can do is if you’re working with an account team, do reach out to the account team and then we can set up a deep dive call. And then walk you through the process on what it is. We have partners who actually develop certain solutions to help you do that. So do reach out to the account team if you don’t have an accounting to reach out to us on the community and we should help you get started moving forward with that.
Q: do we have any accelerator to convert reports from other reporting tools to aws QuickSight Paginated Reports ? Will there be any data preparation functionality added as part of AWS QuickSight to do light ETL before doing the reporting ?
A: Yes, so we have actually, a couple of features as part of our roadmap for this year. One of them actually is a data prep. We don’t have timelines for it, but we’re coming up with the absolutely new data prep, for focus site as part of the roadmap for this year. As and when we have more details around it, when it’s in preview, work with the accounting to to get that enabled and, be on a lookout on the community for when those features launch. The new data prep features is much more advanced than what we have today. So be on the lookout for that as soon as it’s launched in preview, you should be able to see what’s upcoming.
Q: If there a way to use apply different themes for paginated reports?
A: Yes, the same way you have for your dashboards. Once you create a theme, right, within, your quick site, you can apply that to given reports. It works the same way as it works for your interactive dashboards. So just to highlight, like you might have these themes, you can apply that. So if I wanted to change the I have a particular theme being applied, so you can change it to another team that you are looking for.
