Quicksight doesn't honour my default region set in AWS Unified Settings

When I log into QuickSight, it always defaults to N. Virginia as my region, despite that fact that my region is set to Asia Pacific (Sydney) ap-southeast-2 in Unified Settings (see Choosing a Region - AWS Management Console)

It’s irritating to have to keep changing it back to Sydney.

I’ve seen comments elsewhere that suggest that others are having a similar problem to me.

“Sadly AWS has a cache bug. It does not remember your default region, and will go to us-east1 every time. I have tried many things but to no avail.”
