QuickSight Feature Request - Request for Feature Enhancements in QuickSight

Hi QuickSight Team,

After working with QuickSight for almost three years, I really enjoy using it to build dashboards, as it is flexible and offers almost all the necessary features required in a BI tool. However, there are still some basic features that are unavailable.

1. Custom Sort/Off-Visual Field in Heat Map

Custom sort and off-visual field options are available for various visual types in QuickSight, but they are not available for heat maps. What is the reason for this limitation? If possible, could we add sorting options for heat maps?

Current Challenge: In my last dashboard, I created a heat map based on weekdays (from Sunday to Monday) as strings in rows and time frames from 12 AM to 11:59 PM also in string format. This requires complex calculated fields to address sorting issues.

2. Sorting Dropdown in Analysis Interface

The sorting dropdown filter is available on the QuickSight dataset page but not in the analysis interface.

Current Challenge: Without a sorting dropdown in the analysis interface, we have to scroll through fields one by one, which is not an efficient experience. If the dropdown could include dimension fields, measure fields, and calculated fields, it would greatly improve usability.

Attached are screenshots for better understanding

3. Folder Options in Analysis Page While folder options are available in the datasets page, they are not present in the analysis page. This makes it difficult to manage fields effectively.

Current Challenge: The lack of folder options in the analysis page makes it feel cluttered. If possible, could we add folder options to help organize fields?

*screenshots are attached for clarification.

4. Dataset Last Save and Publish Time It would be helpful to display the last save and publish time of datasets within the analysis.

Current Challenge: Often, we need to change a query in the dataset but forget to update the dataset. Checking the dataset’s last saved and published time can be cumbersome. If we could see this information directly in the analysis, it would streamline our workflow.

5. Minimize Button for Calculated Fields

The minimize button for calculated fields is not available. When adding a new calculated field, it takes up the entire screen, making it difficult to analyze the visual and make decisions. If a minimize button were available, we could more easily reference the visual while working on calculations.

6. Status Updates for Incremental or Full Refresh

Is there a way to display a status indicator when an incremental or full refresh is occurring on the dashboard? For example, it would be helpful to show that the dataset is currently being refreshed.

7. Copy Formatting Option

The copy formatting option is not available in QuickSight. Currently, the only option is to duplicate the visual, which requires removing and replacing all fields. It would be much more efficient to have a copy formatting option to use format between visuals.

With my current experience level, I fully agree with @Biswajit_1993 on points 2 & 6.

One the point of formatting, in our usage of QuickSight we have a specific date format that we have to apply to date-time fields and I need to do that individually for each field and each new analysis we build.

It would nice if we can apply a format at the analysis level through the concept of a formatting template. While I have given the example for date, the same could hold true for numeric formatting as users have their preferred formatting requirements.

I agree with all these suggestion. This will be helpful.
Also, I have one more request to add to:

For Cross-sheet filter application, allow developer to select custom visuals for filter application.

Hi @prantika_sinha,

Great point! I forgot to mention that I recently face this challenges. I created some navigation buttons and applied a cross filter. However, I’m facing an issue, when a value is not present in the date filter, the navigation buttons display No Data. If we have the cross filter restriction, we should consider removing all the navigation buttons from the selection.

Great feature requests. If you have access the necessary permissions. Check out QuickSight Power Tools. It solves some of the pain points re: calculated fields.
