I am new to QuickSight and trying to figure out if there is a way to set the drill level of a visual with a parameter. I have a hierarchy with 8 levels of manager->employee. Drilling down functionality works great when done manually through the visual but its quite tedious and I’d like to bring a user into a level they previously drilled to or at least to the level of their direct manager.
Hi @rreilly70
think there is no simple solution.
First thing I have in mind is build multiple visuals for the different level and based on the parameter you will show the corresponding visual.

Hi @ErikG
Thanks for the quick response. I had seen somebody mention something similar. I was hoping that some other options may exist. I could see that solution work but boy it seems awfully “Ham Handed” . I was able to provide the users a quick way to navigate to their specific items but it does not drill the levels down so the visual is a bit confusing. I’ll have to see if they find that too confusing and if so I’ll try the approach you recommend. Right now my solution is more a pilot anyway and I am learning QuickSight as part of that pilot. So no immediate need to invest the effort. If it was simple I’d do it.
Thanks again for getting back on this so quick.

Hi @rreilly70, besides using custom SQL – I’m out of ideas. Check out creating cascading filters or parameters:
