Troubleshooting Topic Creation and Visual Editing Issues in Amazon Q

Hello,

I’m having trouble with a few functionalities in Amazon Q and need some assistance:

  1. Missing Create Topic Option:

    • The option to create a topic is missing from the upper right corner of my interface. Any ideas on how to fix this?
  2. Visual Edit Error:

    • I get an error message saying “The requested edit is incompatible with this visual” when I try to create a table. How can I resolve this?
  3. Topic Linking Failure:

    • I’m seeing a “Failed to link topic” error when trying to link a new topic. What steps can I take to troubleshoot this?

Attached are screenshots showing the errors:

  • Screenshot 1: [Failed to link topic error]
  • Screenshot 2: [Create table error]
  • Screenshot 3: [No create topic option]

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Dan

Hello @kolodnydan, I may need a little more information about some of the errors you are facing, but I will do my best to guide you further.

  1. Missing Create Topic Option: Is your user set as a Author PRO? That is the required level of authorship permissions to be able to create Q topics. If you are just an Author, you or an admin on your account, will need to upgrade your user account so you can access this feature.

  2. Visual Edit Error: It looks like you are attempting to edit a visual rather than create a visual. Create table is a rather vague request for Q when determining how it should edit a bar chart visual you have created. If you start from scratch and say something like Show me the sum of deposit amount by date as a table you may have more luck. You should also be able to edit the visual type created to switch it between visuals after Q generates it.

  3. Topic Linking Failure : Are you trying to link the topic to the dashboard within the publishing options? Also, is the dataset the Q Topic is built from present in the dashboard you are publishing? If the dashboard is present, it should let you link the topic, but this may also be an issue due to permissions with not being an Author Pro account.

Let me know if this helps!

Hello! if Topic link Failure still happens, it might be because someone with access to the dashboard and topic has a topic with the same name. We unshared the topic, deleted the duplicated topic, and it worked to link the topic to the dashboard.
