Calculated Fields disappeared after QS dataset replacement?

Hello everyone,

Can anyone pls help me understand why the calculated fields disappeared after the QS dataset replacement in QS analysis?

  • Specifically, I’m referring to calculated fields created within analysis.

From my past experience, the analysis level calculated fields always remain in the analysis even if they were broken (after the QS dataset replacement). So this is the first time I’m encountering the issue where those calculated fields all disappeared after my QS dataset replacement.

Please help me understand why this is happening and how I should prevent this from happening? Thanks.

Hello Irinaa,

I think this issue with disappearing calculated fields after Quick Sight dataset replacement could occur for a few possible reasons:

Dataset Schema Changes:

  • If the new dataset has different column names or data types
  • If referenced fields in your calculations no longer exist in the new dataset
  • If there are structural changes between the old and new datasets

During Replacement:

  • Ensure the new dataset maintains the same schema structure
  • Verify column names and data types match exactly

If you’re still experiencing issues, you may want to:

  • Check if this is a temporary Quick Sight UI issue (try refreshing)
  • Contact AWS Support if the problem persists
  • Consider recreating the calculated fields if necessary

Hope this gives some idea.

Cheers,
Deep
