In a scenario if there is 1 author, 5 readers and I have an embedded dashboard, so there are 10 users who will see my dashboard, what will be the total cost? which model will be best in this case?
Hello Sreeparna,
First of all Welcome to QuickSight Community.
there are two approach on Pricing in in Quikcisght
- User-based pricing
- Capacity pricing
Yes - For Author its $24 /m irrespective of any of pricing model, $50/m for Pro Author
Readers
For User based pricing
its $3/m for Reader
Capacity pricing - Reader
its session based - you are not charged $3/m but instead your QuickSight account are allotted session.
example: for $250 /m you get 500 sessions/m. a session is a 30 minutes period.
these sessions are consumed by your readers (shared among readers) and it gets subtracted from your allotted sessions. once the 500 sessions is exhausted, you need to purchase additional sessions. exhausting session does not mean user will not be able to access the dashboard but you will be charged based on Additional session charge as shown in your screenshot.
Please see here for more details.
NOTE: you cannot have both pricing model, either user-based or Capacity pricing.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Deep
Thanks Deep for the detailed explanation
Hi Deep, I have prepared a pricing comparison between user based and session based , the price difference is huge. I just want to know, if I am doing it in correct way or not.
Hello Sreeparna,
I would recommend to open a new thread on your additional questions so that others can provide the solution and at the same time benefits from the solution.
I think your comparison is not appropriate. for 250$ you get 500 session/m and as per your screen shot calculation if you monthly session for 80/user means for 50 users it would be 4000 sessions /m provided all the 50 users are active and consuming those sessions.
Ideally, capacity pricing allows Amazon QuickSight customers to purchase Reader sessions or Amazon Q question capacity in bulk, without having to provision individual users in QuickSight. Capacity pricing is ideal for embedded applications or large-scale BI deployments.
If you BI deployment is comparatively small and you know the users then its better to go for user based pricing.
Hope this clears your doubt.
Cheers,
Deep
