I am taking over an existing QS report which has been using Excel as data source. I noticed a few things here
if I add additional columns to the Excel file, the visual won’t recognize the dataset anymore, and I have to recreate the visuals even though the columns that are used in the visual still exist in the new file, and the visual will be broken.
Hello @yuchen1, if you are having issues updating the existing dataset, I would recommend creating a brand new dataset with the updated excel file. Then you can go into the analysis, select manage datasets from the dataset dropdown, and replace the dataset there. That way you can map fields directly and it should maintain the visuals you still have. As long as you aren’t completely changing the schema, removing fields, or altering the datatype of an existing field, this should resolve the issue you are facing.
I’ll mark this as the solution, but let me know if you have any remaining questions!
I have a similar question. I have a dataset where I need to replace data, rather than update it. The excel file has the same structure, but data values have changed.
I have used the update dataset but it keeps the old data. I have uploaded the sheet separately but I cant delete the original data and/or join the other sheets in the dataset.
The product is in testing so I would love to be able to update the metadata surrounding the analytics data without having to rebuild all the reports. Once the product is complete all the data will need to be replaced again with production data.
