Downgrading from Q

Prematurely subscribed to Q and no longer use. Despite removing all Q licenses I am still paying and being told in order to downgrade I will have to migrate current instances to new environment which is a hassle to my users. Am I missing something or has anyone else been in similar situation and found a resolution?

Thank you

Hi @nick.mckinney

Welcome to the Quick community!

To fully stop Amazon Q charges in Quick, please ensure the following steps have been completed:

  1. Downgrade all Pro users: All users with Pro roles (Author Pro, Reader Pro, Admin Pro) must be downgraded to their standard counterparts (Author, Reader, Admin).
  2. Delete Q Topics in all regions: Please verify that no Q Topics remain in any AWS region, including regions that may not be actively in use. Even orphaned topics can continue to trigger charges.
  3. Disable Dashboard Q&A: If any dashboards have the Q&A bar enabled, this can also result in continued billing.

Once you’ve confirmed all of the above are addressed and you’re still seeing charges, I’d recommend opening a case with AWS Support so our team can look into the specifics of your account and help resolve this.

Hi @Xclipse - thanks. Steps 1-3 are complete and have been completed for some time. I have opened a ticket, spoke with technical and sales personnel, and they are the ones who told me I’d I could downgrade but would need to migrate environments.

Has anyone successfully stopped Amazon Q billing in QuickSight?

We enabled Amazon Q to evaluate the capability and later decided it was not yet a fit for our needs. Enabling the feature was effortless. Turning it off has been anything but.

Since September 24, 2025, we have been working with AWS Support and AWS personnel to stop Amazon Q charges. We have:

• Downgraded all Pro users
• Deleted all Q Topics
• Disabled Dashboard Q&A
• Followed the guidance provided by AWS
• Opened multiple support cases

Despite this, Amazon Q charges continue to appear on our bill.

At this point, we have incurred more than $4,000 in charges while attempting to disable a service that we are not using.

My questions for the community and QuickSight team are:

  1. Has anyone successfully and completely stopped Amazon Q billing?

  2. Are there hidden dependencies, regional settings, or licensing artifacts that can continue generating charges?

  3. Has anyone else been told that an environment migration is required simply to stop billing?

  4. What is the documented process to fully disable Amazon Q and its associated charges?

This is not a complaint about the product itself. We evaluated it and chose not to continue using it. The concern is that gaining access to the feature and starting billing was straightforward, while stopping the service has involved months of back-and-forth discussions, multiple support engagements, and more than $4,000 in charges.

Any guidance from the community or the QuickSight team would be appreciated.
