How to Disable QuickSight Q and Stop Unwanted Billing

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using QuickSight for nearly a year. About 3 months ago, I accidentally upgraded my account to Admin Pro, not realizing that this would activate Amazon Q, which comes with an additional cost of $250/month — which I consider a rip-off, especially since I’ve never used or intended to use it.

Since then, I’ve:

  • Followed all documentation to downgrade Pro users back to regular Admins.
  • Never created any Topics or used Q&A features.
  • Tried everything possible to remove or disable Amazon Q, but I’m still being charged $250 every month.
  • Already paid over $750 for a feature I’ve never used.

In the QuickSight console, under Manage QuickSight > Manage Pricing, it still says that “Amazon Q in QuickSight” is Active, and there’s no option to turn it off.

To make matters worse, the documentation says that after making changes to your subscription, you need to wait until the end of the billing cycle to check if it worked — which feels like a scammy practice. Why can’t users immediately disable a paid feature they don’t use?

This whole experience is extremely frustrating. I want to:

  1. Immediately and permanently disable Amazon Q on my account.
  2. Ensure I am not charged again going forward.
  3. Request a refund for the past few months of charges.

Any help or clarity from the community or AWS team would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello @TomaszJ, do you have an enterprise QuickSight account? If so, you are going to want to create a support ticket so that you can ensure Q is disabled on your account and request a refund for the previous bills.

Here are the steps for opening a support ticket - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support . If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf

Also, if you have an Enterprise account, you should also have an AWS Representative that is linked to your account. That person may also be able to assist you in this process.
