Is it possible to remove the numbers next to this legend and ideally put words under the bar instead. I could probably use a text box to put words, so could I at least remove the numbers?
As a temporary fix, I just covered the numbers up with a text box.

I am not sure if I understood the problem correctly. But if you are talking about the Legend or Data table there is an option to disable the same from the properties dialogue.
Layering a text box is not a solution if you have more than one group in the chart. If you are sure that you only have one group/bar then it may work.

Since it is a legend, you can either enable it or disable it. The number cannot be removed.
