Shared SPICE storage

Hi,

We are working with one client on migrating Tableau reports to Quiksight. I have 2 questions:

  1. In this implementation we need to understand that the client will be purchasing 20 licenses. So what i understand is each license will come with 10GB of free SPICE storage. It means total of 200GB SPICE storage. So my question is this 200GB SPICE storage will be shared across all license users? Or each license users will have its own 10GB of free storage?
  2. If I am using direct query option, can Quicksight connect to a view in Snowflake?

Hello @manasib
For 1) Yes, SPICE capacity is shared by all the people using Quick Sight in a single AWS Region. It is region based. Please note, the 200GB spice for 20 licenses will only be available in the default capacity region which you selected while creating Quick Sight subscription.

For 2) Yes, Snowflake data source is supported through both spice and direct query method.

Hope this helps! Thanks.

Hello Manasib,

In addition to what Snehali has mentioned, please be informed that 10GB SPICE allocation is only for Author/ Authorpro not for reader.

Meaning 20 users with just 1 author may not get 200 but 10 GB only.

  • A 10 GB SPICE allocation is included with every Quick Sight Author license.
  • A credit for 10 GB SPICE is included with every Quick Sight Author Pro license.
  • SPICE can be added and removed at any time of the month.
  • Each SPICE dataset in the Quick Sight Enterprise edition supports a maximum 1 billion rows per 1 TB size.
    Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Deep

Thank you @msnehali for confirmation.

Thank you so much @Deep This was really helpful. My understanding was little bit different. Thanks for clearing out.
