Cannot edit datasources in new Quick Suite UI

Today my QuickSight account showed the new “Quick Suite” UI. I can no longer edit datasources that I own. Clicking edit returns a blank page.

Is this a known issue?

What could be causing it?

I’m not 100% sure, but happy to give a try at helping you troubleshoot.

I’m an internal user and have been learning my way through this transition the last several weeks. My first stop for help is now usually the unified chat window in Quick Suite.

I tried this prompt, here’s what I got…does this help you solve the question?

Question: If a user used to be able to edit data sources in QuickSight, but now cannot, with the new upgrade to Quick Suite, what could be the problem?

Answer: Based on the information available, if a user used to be able to edit data sources in QuickSight but now cannot after the upgrade to Quick Suite, here are the most likely causes and solutions:

Common Permission Issues

Data Source Ownership Requirements

  • To edit custom SQL in datasets, you need to be the owner of the data source, not just have access to it [1][2]

  • If you’re unable to see the data source under “From Existing Data Sources,” it’s most likely because you don’t have permissions for the source [1][2][3][4]

Permission Changes After Upgrade

  • The upgrade to Quick Suite maintains all existing data connectivity, security controls, user permissions, and access controls unchanged [5]

  • However, if permissions were previously managed through groups or roles, these may need to be re-verified

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Data Source Permissions

    • Navigate to QuickSight Console → Datasets → [your dataset name]

    • Go to the permissions tab to verify your access level [6]

    • You need owner-level permissions to edit data sources

  2. Verify Role Entitlements

    • With Quick Suite, role-based access has been clarified:

      • Reader ($3): Limited access

      • Professional Tier ($20): Enhanced capabilities

      • Author ($24): Can connect to data sources and analyze data

      • Enterprise Tier ($40): Full authoring capabilities including dashboard creation [5]

  3. Contact Data Source Owner

    • If you don’t have owner permissions, reach out to the data source owner or a tenured engineer to grant you access [1][2][3][4]

    • They can share the data source with appropriate permissions through the “Share data source” option [8]

Quick Suite Specific Considerations

The transition to Quick Suite on October 9, 2025, was designed to preserve all existing functionality.[5] However, if you’re experiencing issues:

  • Custom Permissions: Admins can now use expanded Custom Permissions to control access to capabilities at account, role, and user levels [5]

  • Regional Availability: Some new features are only available in specific regions (US East, US West, Europe Dublin, Asia Pacific Sydney) [5]

Immediate Solutions

  1. Request Access: Ask the data source owner to grant you owner-level permissions

  2. Check with Admin: Verify that Custom Permissions haven’t restricted your access to data source editing capabilities

  3. Verify Role: Ensure your user role (Author/Enterprise Tier) includes data source editing permissions

The most common cause is simply not having owner-level permissions on the specific data source you’re trying to edit, which is a requirement that existed in QuickSight and continues in Quick Suite.

Thank you for the quick and thorough response.

However, I am the owner of the datasource. No permissions have changed. I get no error or feedback, just a blank page.

This is what the URL looks like (id changed):

This is solved.

After I created a new datasource, I was able to edit the original datasource. It may have been a popup blocker problem. However, it should be investigated.
